When I was growing up, for a number of years, our bread was baked for us by a local friend and horse facility owner, Audrey Smith. Her bread is one of those things like Pop’s Pancakes that I remember fondly from my childhood.
A few years ago, thru my mother I asked for Audrey’s recipe, and she graciously agreed to give it to me. Now, being a good ranch household, the recipe made more loaves than I could possibly want to make. So, the recipe went into the project file to be worked on at a later date.
(Not so) fast forward to spring 2020, and I had a period of time off thanks to the Covid pandemic, and like everyone else it seems, I decided to use some of that time to do some baking, and it was a great time to work on the bread recipe.
After cutting it down and making some adjustments, I was able to reliably turn out bread that reminded me of my childhood, and Hazelmist Ranch. I thank Audrey for sharing the recipe, and I hope that if you have time and a bit of ambition, you will give her bread a try.
